  • This study reviews the effects and mechanisms of hydrogen therapy (H₂) in reducing oxidative stress and inflammation in patients with COVID-19.
  • Due to its small molecular size and nonpolar nature, hydrogen rapidly crosses cell membranes and penetrates intracellular organelles, where it suppresses NF-κB inflammatory signaling and induces the Nrf2/Keap1 antioxidant pathway.
  • Hydrogen therapy has been shown to reduce oxidative stress and inflammatory responses in COVID-19 patients, and thus has the potential to lead to better clinical outcomes (p-value not provided; further studies are needed).
