What is PBM (Photobiomodulation)?
PBM Therapy (Photobiomodulation) is also known as Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) and is a therapeutic approach that induces biological changes in organisms through the interaction of photons with biological tissues. When light of specific wavelengths is applied to cells or tissues, it activates the mitochondria, thereby influencing blood and lymph circulation, nerve cells, and ATP production.
Both PBM and LLLT are officially adopted terms in the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. As of February 2024, there are 5,261 citations related to PBM and LLLT in PubMed.
