This systematic review analyzed the tumor safety and side effects of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) used to prevent and manage toxicities associated with cancer treatment.
The review included clinical studies involving human subjects and examined PBMT parameters (wavelength, dose) and number of treatment sessions.
Based on the synthesis of 27 studies, PBMT was found to be effective in preventing and managing side effects such as oral mucositis, lymphedema, and radiation dermatitis, and it did not appear to cause tumor safety issues (p-values were not specified).
